| Located at the railroad tracks on the Webster-Dudley line, being the closest hotel to the station was less advantageous than it would appear, according to a Webster TIMES article: "For the third successive Saturday, the roof of the Hotel DeWitt was set on fire early Saturday morning by sparks from a passing engine. This Saturday morning diverson is getting to be the regular thing." Owners through the years included J.J. Johnson of Thompson, CT, Colonel Alexander DeWitt of Oxford, Brandon F. Sibly, Mr. Charles Lennon. In 1920, the dining room was closed and by 1931 the hotel ceased to operate. The unused building stood until 1939 when it was demolished. | |
